Have I mentioned how much I love New Orleans verandas?

Ahhh….verandas. I’ve always liked a good outdoor space, but at home in Toronto, they’re sort of off limits for much of the year. And we tend to have decks rather than use our front porches.

But in New Orleans, people have verandas, and porches, and lovely cool courtyards. Let’s face it: this is the South, and they need all the breezy, shady places they can get. Especially in the sweltering summer months.

In the French Quarter you could make a case for needing balconies and verandas just to have a perch for the Mardi Gras parades. They look particularly made for parties, don’t they? Or for whiling away an afternoon with a book and an ice cold drink?
