The many colours of New Orleans homes

Marigny home in lavender

New Orleans is full of interesting houses – from the French Quarter and Faubourg Marigny to the Garden District. I love wandering around neighbourhoods to check them out, and the first thing I’m always drawn to is the colourful palette of paint and trim. Colour combinations run the gammut – from the soft pastel to the far more vibrant. Sometimes it feels like it’s always carnival time in New Orleans.

I would never have put this colour combination together for a house exterior, and yet it’s soothing and beautiful:

Here are a few other examples from my wanders around the city. The majority are still homes, but some have been converted to restaurants and businesses. Pinks and yellows and greens and reds and teals, oh my!
